My creative journey began when I served a three-year apprenticeship with the renowned German interior architect, Monica Bosch.
This hands-on experience gave me an invaluable grounding in all aspects of turnkey projects.
Next followed a stint at the Cape Town architectural practice, Vernon Head & Associates, after which I ran the retail division of Innovation.
At the age of 24, my own interior design business was launched. Returning to Joburg in the 80s, I bought Spegash Interior Design. 30 years on, my fascination with sophisticated, glamorous interiors continues to grow.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
It’s my role to expand on the look and feel that appeals to my clients – ultimately their personalities must shine through. I’m known for being adventurous, and I like to push my clients a little – whether that’s trying cutting-edge materials or an unexpected palette. Over many years I’ve established a network of trusted suppliers and contractors – professionals whom I count on to give the very best service and highest quality of manufacturing. From private residences to large-scale malls, my hallmark is one of beauty, function and purpose.
RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS
To me a home is not a showpiece. It’s a luxurious, glamorous, multi layered space that invites you to live in it. Comfort is key, and in each of my projects, whether in Europe or South Africa, I source the finest furniture and fabrics available. In our preliminary meetings I encourage my clients to show me their favourite décor images; allowing us to begin with a shared goal in mind. I’m delighted to say that I am now doing residential projects for my longstanding clients’ adult children.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS, AWARDS AND APPEARANCES
Member and past national president of the South African Guild of Interior Designers (SAGID). Co-founder and past national president of the African Institute of Interior Design Professionals (SAIID), with honorary membership conferred in 2010. Member of the South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC). Spegash Interior Design is Level 4 BEE accredited.
AWARDS
Retail Design and Development Award for, Cresta Bridge Link. Emirates African Property Award for, Cresta Shopping Centre.
I’ve enjoyed numerous appearances on TV shows such as the Home Channel, Kyk Net and Top Billing. My residential projects have been generously covered in the South African media. I have done many prominent exhibitions at Decorex SA, Rooms on View and Grand Designs, with many radio interviews over the years.
